How Is A Rainbow Formed | The Dr. Binocs Show | Learn Videos For Kids

Here is a video for you to learn about how rainbows are formed.

For this week and next week’s English you will be looking at non-fiction texts about rainbows and by the end of next week you will write your own non-fiction text about rainbows, so make sure you listen carefully to the information!

Monday 25th January – begin by reading through this riddle – what is it describing?

What am I?

A bridge, a bow, an arch.

Shining bright in the sky.

From sunshine and rain am I.

Look up or you’ll miss me.

 

Well done if you guessed a rainbow! Look at the picture of a rainbow attached and discuss the questions. Then write down your ideas about what you already know about rainbows (tomorrow you will begin to learn about them).

Tuesday 26th January – begin by watching the video on how a rainbow is formed. Then read through the attached information text about rainbows. 

Wednesday 27th January – read through the information text again. Begin by answering the comprehension questions attached about the information text you have read. Then have a go at the vocabulary challenge questions.

Thursday 28th January – have another read of the information text. Then have a look at the pictures of rainbows attached. Around the outside of the pictures write down some words that you could use to describe a rainbow. Then on the template attached draw a picture of your own rainbow and write some sentences to describe your rainbow. Use the adjectives you have already thought of.

Friday 29th January – this week you have been looking at an information text. It gives us facts about a topic and explains the causes of things. Most information texts have:

  • A title
  • An opening sentence that says what the text is about
  • Sub-headings (these are smaller titles)
  • Facts
  • Photos or diagrams
  • Sometimes a glossary

In the information text about rainbows that you have been looking at this week can you underline the features above, using the same colours as above. Then have a look at the second information text attached and have a read through. Highlight the features using the same colours as before. Then have a think about which information text you liked best and write a sentence to say which one and why.

 

This week you will also find a new read, write, inc book, new spellings and a grammar activity based on verbs. We have also included some handwriting for you to practise, please see separate information on this with a schedule on what you should do each day.
