This half term we will be taking a 'Walk down Story Lane' as our topic, each week looking at a different traditional tale. We start with the Three Billy Goats Gruff in line with our talk for writing story this half term. The children will be able to really engage with the story through the activities provided to imbed each story! The unit will support the children's story telling skills, vocabulary along with supporting the rest of the curriculum. Story telling is a big part of Nursery and we find these themed weeks bring out some great story telling and creativity from the children.
As lockdown continues, most of us will be learning from home! As ever we will follow our Maths, Literacy and Creative focus activities like we would in the classroom with the additional curriculum tasks to complete. Each day extra daily activities are posted on tapestry including videos of the days activities, PE and a daily story.
Week 1: 3 Billy Goats Gruff. This week in Maths the children will continue working on turn taking and counting with a Billy Goats Gruff themed board game. We will also introduce repeating patterns which we will work on throughout the half term with the children. In creative the children will be design a plate of their favourite food and drink, as well as building a bridge for the Billy Goats Gruff. Through building the bridge the children will be using puppets to re-tell the story, we will also be creating some story maps for the story, to support the children's story sequencing skills.
Week 2: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This week we continue working on repeating patterns in Maths with the help of Snow White's apples as well as turn taking with a game of Snow White bingo. In Literacy the children will be looking at different emotions in relation the Dwarfs and thinking about what make us feel this way. We will also be thinking about what we like about ourselves in our Mirror Mirror on the wall activity. In creative we are using bubble wrap to do some printing, we will use paints to create a bubble wrap printed apple. We will also be using our mirrors to look at our faces and create a self portrait.
Week 3: Elves and the Shoemaker. In Maths this week we created some repeating pattern keyrings for our Mummy's ready for Mother's Day, alongside this in Creative we made some cards to go with our keyrings. Outside for our Literacy activity we were playing a game with lots of welly boots, they were all muddled up and we had to help the elves match all the shoes again!
Week 4: Little Red Riding Hood. This week we are all back to school, which is very exciting - going back to three focus activities with staff and lots of open ended activities. In maths this week we will continue looking at repeating patterns by making a path to Grannies house in the garden as well as playing Red Riding Hoods game in the classroom. In literacy we are creating wolf wanted posters, thinking of a name for him and what he looks like, the children also had opportunities for story telling with puppets and puppet show . In creative the children created their own basket of foods they would take to Grannies house.
Week 5: Jack and the Beanstalk. Unfortunately the children had to go back to remote learning this week. In maths the children played a game of eye spy and had to count how many of each object there was as well as creating some repeating patterns with the help of Jack's magic beans. In literacy we wrapped up out Talk for Writing story so there was lots of story telling of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and Jack and the Beanstalk. In creative the children created an Easter card and used lots of different shapes to create an Easter Bunny.
A snap shot of our learning - we have been busy!
