Spring 1

Our Topic this half term is Muck, Mess and Mixtures.

During this topic we will:

  • Have a messy afternoon, experiencing a variety of wonderful textures and mixtures. 
  • Read George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl.
  • Think about the properties and uses of everyday materials such as glass and plastic. 
  • Sort everyday objects according to the material they are made from. 
  • Explore how the shape of everyday materials can be changed by twisting, stretching, bending and squashing.
  • Explore a variety of adjectives and scientific vocabulary to describe materials.
  • Think about solids and liquids.
  • Explore colour mixing with paint.

Autumn 2

Our Topic this half term is Street Detectives

During this topic we will:

  • Explore our local area with a Local Walk.
  • Look at maps and photographs of our local area.
  • Think about what we have in our local area e.g. shops, churches, schools and parks.
  • Think about what we would like to see in our local area.
  • Explore what our local area was like in the past.
  • Carefully sketch houses.
  • Use computers to draw houses.
  • Use geographical vocabulary when thinking about our local area.
  • Make and decorate houses.

Autumn 1

Our Topic this half term is Wriggle and Crawl

During this topic we will:

  • Visit Stonham Barns to observe Meerkats.
  • Go on a minibeast hunt in the school grounds.
  • Explore the habitats of living things, especially minibeasts.
  • Sketch minibeasts.
  • Compare things that are living, dead or have never been alive.
  • Explore the life cycle of a butterfly.
  • Explore the basic needs of living things.
